The Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 competitive grants application period is open
The Application Period for FY2024 Cooperative Landslide Hazard Mapping and Assessment Program External Grants Proposals is now open. Proposals will be accepted through June 17, 2024. To learn more and access the FY2024 Program Announcement posted on grants.gov, go to Grants.gov and search for Opportunity Number G24AS00345. The only eligible applicants for the grants are local, state, Tribal, and territorial governments. State geologic surveys or other state offices organized under a state university system are also eligible.
For those interested in the FY2024 landslide grants and would like to receive regular grant updates during the FY2024 open application period, please send a blank email to sslaughter@usgs.gov with the subject line “landslide grants”. We anticipate "regular emails" as approximately a dozen messages during the 60-day application period that include alerts for grant webinars and office hours, approaching grant deadlines, Program Announcement updates, etc.
The USGS Cooperative Landslide Hazard Mapping and Assessment Program (“the Program”) priorities reflect the National Landslide Preparedness Act and the National Strategy for Landslide Loss Reduction, which support the mission of the USGS Landslide Hazards Program (LHP) to reduce loss of lives and property from landslides and improve public safety and community resilience of the Nation. The Program is authorized through appropriations to the USGS to provide grants, on a competitive basis, to State, territorial, local, and Tribal governments to research, map, assess, and collect data on landslide hazards within the jurisdictions of those governments.
Annual Competitive Grants
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is soliciting project proposals for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 competitive grants to support landslide risk reduction efforts including communication, planning, coordination, mapping, assessments, and data collection. Interested organizations can apply online at grants.gov under funding Opportunity Number G24AS00345. The organizations eligible to apply are state, territorial, local, and Tribal governments. State geologic surveys or other state offices organized under a state university system are also eligible. This is the inaugural grant offered through the USGS Landslide Hazards Program (LHP) and we encourage submission that will advance landslide hazard mapping and assessments, improve landslide hazard planning and coordination, or improve dissemination and effectiveness of landslide hazard information in mitigating losses. The complete list of FY2024 LHP risk reduction priorities are included in the grants solicitation found on grants.gov and on the “view risk reduction priorities” tab, above.
The Landslide Hazard Program (LHP) will issue an annual Program Announcement for grant proposals to support landslide hazards risk reduction activities.
