Aimee Devaris
Aimee Devaris is Regional Director for the USGS Alaska Region (Interior Region 11).
The Regional Director for USGS Alaska Region (Interior Region 11), Aimee provides leadership supporting the full extent of USGS science capabilities, including natural hazards, energy and mineral resources, water resources, geospatial mapping, and ecosystems and landscape science. In this position, Aimee oversees the Alaska Science Center, Volcano Science Center, and multidisciplinary project personnel located within the region. She is responsible for representing the USGS and DOI on the broad array of interagency working groups and committees focused on advancing scientific outcomes in the US Arctic and managing partner and stakeholder relationships in the region.
Aimee also serves as the executive champion for the USGS Civility and Inclusion Council and the Women in Science Dialogue Employee Resource Group, and she leads several initiatives focused on improving workplace culture and supporting employee development and engagement in the USGS.
Aimee came to the USGS in 2015 after a 21-year career in NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) where she worked her way up from a meteorology internship in Kodiak, Alaska in 1994 to a general weather forecaster and hydrology specialist in Juneau, Alaska, to progressively responsible local and regional management positions in Anchorage, Alaska. Aimee spent most of her early career in Alaska; but her path took her to NWS Headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, through increasingly influential leadership positions, overseeing the agency’s performance management and customer satisfaction systems, then leading the agency’s budget planning to support the NWS Strategic Plan and the transition of NOAA research into operations. Aimee returned to Alaska in 2008 and began serving as the NWS Regional Director in 2011.
