Madenjian to be Interviewed by Local Newspaper on Lake Michigan Lake Trout Survey
Interview focuses on Lake Trout on the Northern Refuge in northern Lake Michigan.
Dr. Chuck Madenjian (GLSC, Ann Arbor, Michigan) will be accompanied by Sean Gallagher, a journalist from the Northern Islander, a small publication on Beaver Island in Lake Michigan, on the USGS research vessel Sturgeon during a lake trout gill net survey on the Northern Refuge in northern Lake Michigan between October 29 and November 2, 2022, in order to discuss lake trout rehabilitation and assessment in Lake Michigan. The interview is a follow up to an article that Gallagher published in March 2022 in the Northern Islander about this work (not available online). Gallagher will see the procedures for processing the lake trout caught in the gill nets used to survey the lake trout spawner population in the Northern Refuge. Madenjian will discuss the recent trends in lake trout spawner abundance in the Northern Refuge, recent trends in sea lamprey wounding rates on the lake trout, and recent trends in the catch of wild lake trout in the refuge.
