The Astrogeology Terrestrial Analog Sample Collections include three individual sample collections: the Meteor Crater Sample Collection, the Flynn Creek Crater Sample Collection, and the Shoemaker Sample Collection (embed links to individual pages; add buttons to click to go to individual pages).

Geologic samples from these collections are available to scientists in the planetary science community. The geologic materials in the collections include impact crater drill cores and cuttings; unique and irreplaceable geologic hand samples, rock powders, thin sections and billets, and associated data and documentation, from impact craters, and other terrestrial analog sites, from around the world. These sample collections and data are an essential part of the legacies of Eugene Shoemaker and David Roddy.
Samples from the collections can be used for geochemical and geophysical studies of planetary impact cratering dynamics, such as complex impact crater formation and morphology, impact-induced hydrothermal systems, impact melting of sedimentary targets, and mineral shock metamorphism. Given the modern financial and logistical difficulties inherent in conducting thorough field sampling campaigns, preservation of and access to these sample collections is a fundamental part of Astrogeology’s Terrestrial Analog Program.
