Sonia Ellison
Sonia is a geologist at the Geologic Hazards Science Center.
Sonia enjoys learning and working in many disciplines under the broad umbrella of geology. In her current position, she splits her time between landslide and earthquake hazards, with projects including field work collecting samples and data to support landslide susceptibility research, creating earthquake-triggered ground failure inventories, and working with near-real-time earthquake products. Her varied field background spans many types of geologic mapping and data collection, such as that related to structural geology, glaciology, and glacial geology. Her Master’s work used zircon geochronology to examine tectonic provenance. She is passionate about getting out in the field, the interdisciplinary nature of science (and the world!), and communicating science to everyone.
