If you believe you have experienced, and/or are experiencing, harassment based on a protected status and/or activity you are encouraged to report the matter to one of the following:

  • The supervisor of the employee engaging in the harassing conduct
  • Another supervisor or other management official
  • The servicing Employee Relations Specialist
  • The Anti-Harassment Program Manager
  • The DOI Office of the Inspector General (OIG)

Contact information for these offices/officials can be found on the Anti-Harassment Program website.
NOTE: Employees who know of or have witnessed possible harassment directed at others are expected to report the matter to one of the offices/officials listed above.

 

Information Collected

When you report to one of the offices/officials listed above you will be asked to provide some basic information about the situation, including:

  • Your name and contact information
  • The name and contact Information of the alleged victim, if you are reporting as a witness or as someone who has knowledge of alleged harassment
  • The name, location, and supervisor of the alleged harasser(s)
  • The misconduct or behavior you are alleging
  • The protected status and/or activity on which you believe the harassment was based

 

What if I want to talk with someone BEFORE I report my allegation(s)?

There are confidential consultation options if you wish to explore your situation and options before reporting to one of the offices/officials listed. These resources, such as the Ombuds and USGS CADR Office, can provide assistance and guidance. Please reference the Anti-Harassment Program website for additional information.

 

What if I want my information to remain confidential?

If you share information regarding alleged harassment with any of the offices/officials listed as contacts for reporting alleged harassment, they are obligated to act upon the information. They cannot hold the information in confidence and must initiate the protocols outlined in the USGS Survey Manual Chapter 370.734.1 and DOI Personnel Bulletin No. 18-01.

 

Special instructions for USGS employees deployed to support emergency, disaster, or incident response operations

USGS employees supporting these unique operations are typically not in an office environment and may have limited access to the USGS internet. If you are supporting special operations and experience or witness harassment, there is some basic information we need you to collect about the situation.

If you can provide more detailed information, like what is collected on the “Report of Alleged Harassment Intake Form” found on the USGS Anti-Harassment Program website, please do so. However, we understand that may not be possible. If it will not jeopardize your safety or security, please collect the following information, and follow the protocols for notifying the appropriate officials, including the USGS lead for the operation.

  7. Has the Incident Commander been notified? (Yes/No)
  8. Has the USGS Team Lead for the incident been notified? (Yes/No)
  9. Has the USGS Emergency Management Coordinator been notified? (Yes/No)
