Earth’s cryosphere—frozen regions found throughout much of the Arctic—plays a large role on infrastructure maintenance and development, natural resources, and regulation of the global climate. The USGS conducts research to improve our understanding of permafrost, glaciers, and sea ice, and their response to changing climates in the past, present, and future.
