USGS is currently soliciting project proposals for Fiscal Year 2024 grants on landslide risk reduction science. The grants are part of a new effort to advance our nation’s landslide research capabilities.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is currently soliciting project proposals for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 grants focused on landslide risk reduction and is authorized to award up to $1 million total to local, state, Tribal and territorial governments. Interested organizations can apply online at GRANTS.GOV under funding Opportunity Number G24AS00345. Proposals may include supporting communication, planning, coordination, mapping, assessments, and data collection of landslide hazards. Please review the application instructions found in the GRANTS.GOV solicitation for more information. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. EST, June 17, 2024.

This inaugural grant is offered through the USGS Landslide Hazards Program (LHP) and seeks submissions that will:

  • advance landslide hazard mapping and assessments
  • improve landslide hazard planning and coordination
  • improve dissemination and effectiveness of landslide hazard information in mitigating losses

The grant program was first signed into law through the National Landslide Preparedness Act (Public Law 116-323, signed 2021), which authorized a national landslide hazards reduction program within the USGS. The Act broadened the already existing Landslide Hazards Program, including creating the Cooperative Landslide Hazard Mapping and Assessment Program. The complete list of FY2024 LHP risk reduction priorities is included in the grants solicitation found on GRANTS.GOV, as well as the LHP External Grants website.

The ONLY eligible applicants for this solicitation are state, territorial, local, and Tribal governments.
