In the aftermath of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in late March 2024, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mobilized and began working with a unified team of federal, state, and local agencies with the goals of assessing the damage and, ultimately, restoring maritime navigation. The challenge has been historic as an estimated 50,000 short tons of steel and concrete fell across the total collapsed span of the bridge.
USACE recently joined partners for ribbon cutting ceremony of the AFMES Mark A. Vojtecky Logistics Wing warehouse addition at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
USACE joined elected officials and Dover Air Force Base leadership to celebrate the completion of a maintenance hangar. The $44.8 million hangar will provide a new home to the C5-M Super Galaxy, the largest aircraft in the Air Force fleet.
Each year, USACE dredges several million cubic yards of sediment from the Delaware River and Bay. USACE is currently working with a contractor who is removing some of that sediment from our Fort Mifflin dredged material disposal site.
Contractors work on replacing the deck of the St. Georges Bridge in New Castle County, Delaware. The approximately 18-month project includes demolishing and replacing the bridge decking, median barrier, as well as replaces the bridge approaches and roadways.
