TNM Apps and Viewers Videos

Welcome to the USGS course on Using The National Map Products and Services. This series of videos is focused on The National Map and the variety of products and services that it provides.

 

In this lesson, we will discuss each of the eight base layers of The National Map (TNM). Understanding the content of each layer, where the data comes from, and how this information is managed, is an important step in better utilizing The National Map and its products and services.

The TNM Download application allows users to explore and access the USGS staged products available for download. This application is a user-friendly version of the USGS staged-product application programming interface, and it is available on most platforms.

Lesson 6b: Using USGS The National Map Data on Mobile Devices - This video demonstrates several mobile applications that utilize USGS The National Map Data, as well as the Mobile Atlas Creator.

This video tutorial shows how to use the National Map’s 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) Elevation web service in ArcMap. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to add the Dynamic Elevation Web Coverage Service to ArcMap, enable raster processing templates, and retrieve a spot elevation.

This National Map training video is an introduction to using the LidarExplorer application to easily access lidar data and derived products. In LidarExplorer, you can search for lidar projects, digital elevation models, and lidar point cloud files to meet your needs.

This lesson will show how to use the Domestic Names Search Application to find names of geographic features. By the end of this lesson, you will be introduced to the Geographic Names Information System, understand the search application for U.S. domestic geographic names, and see some search options and help features.
