climb8: An R package for querying and joining climate or meteorological data with USGS hydrologic data

March 9, 2022

This R package, climb8, consists of functions that enable the query and joining of National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) monthly climate data and gridMET daily meteorological data to the time and location of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) water quality and continuous data. Functions in climb8 can import climate and meteorological data across the contiguous United States and uses the dataRetrieval R package for retrieving the USGS data. Climate data is a useful tool when paired with hydrogeochemical data for exploring the explanatory variables that drive water quality and quantity change. Functions within the package query this data at the location of a USGS sampling site or a latitude and longitude value, and provides the data in a concise and organized manner suited for further analyses.
