Jim Anderton

Jim Anderton is the Associate Director for Administration.

With a federal career that spans nearly 33 years, Jim has served in variety of senior leadership roles within the Departments of the Interior, Homeland Security, Commerce, Health and Human Services, and Defense. He comes to the USGS from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, where he served as the Chief Financial Officer and where he was responsible for all aspects of financial, audit, and acquisition management. Jim moved to the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 2018 from the Office of the Secretary where he served as the Director of the Office of Occupational Safety and Health and Deputy Designated Agency Safety and Health Official.   

Jim is a former Naval Officer and United States Marine. He is a graduate of the Department of the Interior’s Senior Executive Service Career Development Program. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from East Tennessee State University, a Master of Education from the University of Oklahoma, and is a graduate of the Harvard Senior Executive Fellows Program.
