Miel Corbett

Miel comes to the USGS after nine years as Deputy Assistant Regional Director for External Affairs at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Pacific Northwest Region, where she supervised a range of communications activities in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Hawaii and Pacific Territories.

She graduated from Mills College (Biology and German studies) and after a series of field research positions (desert tortoise, spotted owls and others), earned a Master’s degree in Forest Science from Yale University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Lewis and Clark College. She began her USFWS career as a Presidential Management Fellow in Washington DC, then as an Endangered Species Act biologist focusing on habitat restoration and private landowner partnerships in California and the Pacific Northwest before making the transition from science to science communications.
