Shirlie A Wise

Shirlie Wise is a Senior Management Administrative Officer with the USGS Ecosystems Mission Area in Reston, VA.

Shirlie Wise began her career in the Federal Government at USGS as a Clerk Typist for the Water Resources Publications Department. She “retired” in 1995 to stay home with her children. She returned to USGS in 2002 as a Management Support Assistant with the ER Branch of Fiscal Services. She quickly moved over to Finance as a Specialist and moved to the HQ Branch of Fiscal Services working on the budgets for the Chief, Fiscal Services, and OAFM.  

In 2006, she moved to the Eastern Mineral & Environmental Resources Science Center as the Administrative Officer. She took over the Eastern Energy Resources Science Center in 2011 to manage both Centers as a merged Administrative staff member. In 2020, the Centers officially merged to create the Geology, Energy & Minerals Science Center. In her current capacity, Shirlie oversees the administrative services and financial health of the Center and is an active member of the Management Team. She provides guidance to Center staff on issues related to budget development and execution, human resources, procurement, and travel. She develops standard operating procedures for the Center and implements new policies.

In her free time, Shirlie loves to spend time with her family being active outside hiking, paddle boarding, biking, rollerblading, kayaking, or skiing.
