About

This webpage describes efforts by the USGS and its state and federal partners to deliver actionable science for coastal communities in western Alaska in the wake of extratropical-typhoon Merbok in September 2022. Results of this project will include permanent markers commemorating Merbok flood elevations, interactive mapping tools of historical shoreline change and future flood and erosion hazards, and real-time coastal monitoring and forecasting of flood hazards. These products can be used to help guide community rebuilding decisions and preparedness for future extreme weather events.
