Adaptive Topobathymetric DEM Fusion Software

Developed By: U.S. Geological Survey
Product added to the Navigator on: 03-27-2024
Page last reviewed or updated on: 03-27-2024

This software fuses two digital elevation models (DEMs), by creating seamless and customizable transitions around the two datasets' seamlines.

Features

  • Automatically uses the elevation difference between your DEMs and the local slope around the seamline to spatially control DEM fusion
  • Customize or override the basic fusion settings to accommodate a variety of landscapes or assumptions about how the landscape should appear
  • Correctly fuses erosive shorelines, preventing representations of old shoreline or sandbars from appearing in a new fused DEM
  • Operable in Jupyter Notebook (or similar development environments) and requires installation of ArcGIS Pro

About

This software was designed to fuse two partially overlapping digital elevation models (DEMs), creating seamless transitions around the DEM boundaries. The code was written in Python and can be downloaded and run on a user's web browser in a Jupyter Notebook (or similar integrated development environment).

Before downloading the software, refer to the User Guide: Adaptive Topobathymetric Fusion Software to learn more about installing and operating the tool. The user guide also describes the academic background of DEM fusion, the optimal project size for this method, and tips to help users process a wide range of landscapes and habitats.
