Hazard Exposure Reporting and Analytics (HERA)
An interactive map and data dashboard of community assets (people, land types, economic assets, infrastructure, and critical facilities) that are in Coastal Storm Modeling System (CosMoS) related hazard zones.
Features
- Comprehensive suite of storm and sea level rise scenarios to choose from
- Simple user-interface
- Data at the community/county level
- Output displayed in multiple formats (graphs, maps, data tables)
About
The HERA web application provides data and tools to map and estimate community and county exposure to CoSMoS-related scenarios of coastal hazards, including coastal flooding, coastal groundwater, and shoreline change.
Community exposure is estimated based on the amount or percentage of community totals of people and various societal assets in a hazard zone. Data are provided as maps, graphs, tables, and CSV tables for download based on user-selected scenarios.
The goals of the tool are to: (1) provide communities with data that may help them to reduce unacceptable risks, (2) raise awareness of the potential influence of sea level rise or storm frequency on coastal hazards, and (3) identify places or sectors that may need more local studies. The goals of the tool are to: (1) provide communities with data that may help them to reduce unacceptable risks, (2) raise awareness of the potential influence of sea level rise or storm frequency on coastal hazards, and (3) identify places or sectors that may need more local studies.
The community estimates of hazard exposure for the range of CoSMoS hazards and scenarios are available for download on USGS ScienceBase. The hazards data that underlie this tool are available from CoSMoS and are also shown in the online viewer Our Coast, Our Future (OCOF).
