Explore our planet through photography and imagery, including climate change and water all the way back to the 1800s when the USGS was surveying the country by horse and buggy.

Waking up in the early morning revealed a layer of fog that had fallen around our camp and the river. Fog is the result of water vapor condensing into water droplets that are suspended the air.

Day 1 pelicans and stormy weather
Launch day is a busy but exciting day for all SCREE participants, and in this photo, several members can be seen loading gear onto the rafts and making sure they are prepared. A 70-day expedition requires quite a bit of important equipment and rations, so the rafts are loaded with the appropriate items, and the inventory triple-checked.
