During this time, Nathan worked in the university’s clownfish laboratory and participated in salmon restoration efforts for the Saco River in Maine. He also had the opportunity to work in the aquarium field in Boston, which helped him gain a better understanding of water quality and its value to the environment. After graduating in 2023, Nathan worked in the wastewater field in Lowell. He enjoys playing sports, nature, and traveling.

Sam Roy, Supervisory Physical Scientist, Maine Office

Sam was born and raised in central Maine. After working briefly for a mining company in Montana, he returned to the Northeast to earn his Ph.D. in Earth and climate sciences at the University of Maine. He is very excited to join the New England Water Science Center and contribute science-based information to the public. In his spare time, Sam is an ever-aspiring canoeist, hiker, painter, gardener, and collector of pretty rocks.
