Occupancy Surveys for the Temblor Legless Lizard (Anniella alexanderae) in the San Joaquin Valley, California 2022 to 2023

This dataset contains the survey effort by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) biologists sampling for Temblor legless lizards (Anniella alexanderae) in 2022 and 2023, the results of those surveys, and environmental covariates relevant to detection and occupancy of this species. At the time of the species description, little was known about the distribution of the Temblor legless lizard beyond a few loc

Duckling Survival in a Brackish Marsh

We conducted a multi-year study (2016-2019) to quantify sources of duckling mortality, identify predator type, and estimate survival rates for Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) ducklings within Suisun Marsh, California.

Egg Mercury Concentration and Egg Size in Two Songbird Species

This dataset includes egg total mercury concentrations, egg total mercury burden, egg length, egg width, predicted egg volume, and predicted fresh wet weight according to egg position in the laying sequence for tree swallow and house wren eggs from the Cache Creek Settling Basin and Cosumnes River Preserve, in California's Central Valley during 2018. These data support the following publication:

Methylmercury Effects on Birds: Bibliography and Dataset for the Development of Toxicity Reference Values for Injury Assessment

This data release contains three files. The first (Table S1 Bibliography Dataset) contains the entire bibliography for the 435 publications examined for potential inclusion into at least one of the meta-analyses for the effects of environmental mercury (Hg) on birds. For those 168 publications that were included in at least one meta-analysis, the worksheet titled Bibliography contains data describ

Home Range and Movement Metric Data of Resident and Translocated Giant Gartersnakes (Thamnophis gigas) in Sacramento, CA, USA, in 2018 to 2021

The dataset consists of two csv files one for home range and net displacement analysis for adult snakes with at least 20 locations collected during the study period and one for the analysis of movement metrics for all adult snakes in the study. The home range data contains the calculated 100 percent and 95 percent minimum convex polygons (MCP) and 95 percent adaptive local convex hull (a-LoCoH) ho

Spatially Explicit Estimates of Greater Sage-Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) Survival, Recruitment, and Rate of Population Change in Nevada, 2013-2021

These data are the results of a spatially interpolated integrated population model (SIIPM) fit to count and demographic data collected from populations of Greater Sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus; hereafter, sage-grouse) located in Nevada, U.S.A. during 2013-2021. We used a novel framework, using integrated population models (IPMs), to express demographic relatedness among sampled and unsamp

Marsh Vegetation Surveys Across the San Francisco Bay Estuary, 2008-2018

Fifty-one tidal marsh sites across five regions (sub-embayments) were surveyed in the Delta, Suisun Bay, San Pablo Bay, central San Francisco Bay, and South San Francisco Bay. Vegetation surveys spanned ten years, from July 2008 to January 2018. A total of 5,112 plots were surveyed. Plots were positioned on transects along an elevation gradient and evenly distributed across each site, where possib

Cactus Wren Invertebrate Diet Derived from Sequencing of Nestling Fecal Samples in San Diego County, California

This dataset contains the invertebrates (identified to Order and Family) present in Cactus Wren nestling fecal samples and found using DNA sequencing (metabarcoding) methods. Nestling fecal samples were collected from one or more handled nestlings per territory collected between April and July of 2015 through 2019 in San Diego, California. The steps to process these data are detailed in the Data Q

Rasters representing Greater Sage-grouse space use, habitat selection, and survival to inform habitat management

We expanded developed methodology to incorporate habitat selection and survival during reproductive life stages and specific seasons with updated greater sage-grouse location and known fate datasets. We included brood-rearing areas that are understood to be threatened and important for population persistence. We combined predictive habitat map surfaces for each life stage and season with updated i

Egg Membrane Thickness in 13 Waterbird Species

Eggshells of 13 waterbird species were divided in half longitudinally and the outer eggshell membrane was removed from one of the halves. Eggshell thickness was measured for both eggshell halves, both with and without the outer eggshell membrane. The eggshell membrane thickness was calculated by taking the difference between the two thickness measurements. These data support the following publica

Tracking Data for Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis)

These location data were collected from a free-ranging species of diving duck, the Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis), using the Argos Satellite Telemetry System with platform transmitter terminals (PTTs) that were surgically implanted in ducks. Ducks were marked at two breeding areas: Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, USA at the northern extent of their distribution (66.51000 degrees N,

Captures and Trapping Effort for Deer Mice (Peromyscus sonoriensis) at Point Reyes National Seashore, California, USA from 2021 to 2022

These data represent trapping effort and captures of deer mice at Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, California. Deer mice were captured and marked with ear tags to allow identification of individuals. The location of captures can be used in a spatially explicit capture recapture model to estimate density of mice and how mouse density varies by site and habitat type.
