Supporting data for Hanalei Watershed model: SWAT_Hanalei

This data release contains inputs and outputs needed to reproduce the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model findings for the publication: Fortini, L.B., Leopold, C.R., Perkins, K., Chadwick, O.A., Yelenik, S.G., Jacobi, J.D., Bishaw, K., II, Gregg, M. and Rosa, S., 2020, Local to landscape-level controls of water fluxes through Hawaiian forests: Effects of invasive animals and plants on soil

Keaukaha Military Reservation Ohia Restoration under ROD-infected Trees 2019-2020

This data release includes data and metadata containing (1) Ohia (Metrosideros polymorpha) tree locations tested for Rapid Ohia Death (ROD) at Keaukaha Military Reserve, Hilo, HI (2) out-planted Ohia seedling information and survival status and (3) raw quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) results for all Ceratocystis lukuohia and huliohia testing. Data were used in the analysis for the ma

Maui Island, Hawaiian hoary bat behavior at wind turbines, 2018

The Hawaiian hoary bat (Lasiurus cinereus semotus), a federally and state listed endangered subspecies, is the only extant native terrestrial mammal in the Hawaiian archipelago. It is an insectivorous, solitary and foliage-roosting species that generally roosts alone or in mother-pup family groups. This data release consists of three tabular datasets comprising acoustic and thermal video data of H

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Plant Trait, Percent Cover, and Environmental Data 2014

This data release includes data and metadata on 1) the coverage and composition of plants 2) species specific plant traits 3) sampling locations and 4) environmental data. All sites were within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on Hawaii Island. Plant cover data were obtained from National Park Service Inventory and Monitoring Program. Plant trait data was collected for these plots in 2014. This stud

Oahu U.S. Army Facilities Hawaiian Hoary Bat Acoustic Data 2015-2016

Acoustic sampling for occurrence of the endangered Hawaiian hoary bat (Lasiurus cinereus semotus) was conducted at 12 locations on U. S. Army facilities on O'ahu Island, Hawai'i. Bats were confirmed as present at 10 of these locations: Dillingham Military Reservation, Helemano Military Reservation, Kahuku Training Area, Kawailoa Training Area, M'kua Military Reservation, Schofield Barracks East Ra

Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge, Hawaii Akepa point-transect survey, 2002

This dataset contains the point-transect distance sampling records of Hawaii Akepa collected at Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge in 2002, including survey point locations, distance to detected birds, number of detected birds, elevation, and alliance-level habitat classification. This data release consists of two tabular datasets, one that contains distances and the other that contains locat

Hawaii Island forest bird avian malaria detection using whole blood preserved in lysis buffer, 2005-2006

It is unclear whether DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) lysis buffers used for preservation of whole blood samples from Hawaiian forest birds cause denaturation and loss of antigen binding capability of antibody molecules. If their antigen binding capability is not affected, then the samples can be used in serological assays to provide an independent assessment of the accuracy of PCR (polymerase chain r

Hawaii Island forest bird response to simulated nest predator 2015-2016

Hawaii forest birds nesting in Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge were exposed to models of predators near their nests to measure behavioral responses. Responses to potential nest predators included vocalization rate, movement behavior, and nestling feeding. Predators were inert stick, introduced but abundant predator, a rat, and a novel predator, a snake, that does not occur on Hawaii.

Alamagan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Nightingale Reed-warbler point transect survey data, 2010

Point transect distance sampling data were collected during the 2010 surveys of Alamagan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Data were collected at points along transects where trained observers recorded the detection type (heard, seen, or heard then seen) and horizontal distance (exact distance in m) from the station center point to individual birds detected during an 8-min coun

Hawaiian Islands datasets quantifying the effects of invasive animals and plants on native forests across the archipelago 2019

Dataset includes publicly available geologic and rainfall data, and environmental and ecological data derived or collected for this project. Specifically, water infiltration measurements, interpreted field-saturated hydraulic conductivity values, ungulate activity, vegetation cover, general soil and weather conditions data are included. Soil samples were collected, lab analyzed, and are included i

SUTRA model used to evaluate groundwater availability in central Molokai, Hawaii

A three-dimensional, variable-density solute-transport model (SUTRA) was developed to evaluate the effects of nine selected withdrawal/recharge scenarios on salinity of groundwater and discharge of freshwater to the nearshore environment of central Molokai, Hawaii. The model was constructed using water-level and salinity data available for the period from 1940 to 2012. Groundwater recharge for the

Hawaii Army National Guard Hawaiian Hoary Bat Acoustic Monitoring 2012-2018 and Keaukaha Military Reservation Prey Study 2018

Acoustic sampling for occurrence of the endangered Hawaiian hoary bat (Lasiurus cinereus semotus) was conducted at 18 "long-term" acoustic monitoring stations on 12 Hawaii Army National Guard (HIARNG) installations across the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Oahu, and Kauai between 2012 and 2018. Hawaiian hoary bat insect prey sampling with paired acoustic monitoring was conducted at Keaukaha Mil
