An Archimedes Scew

Scott Miehls (GLSC, Millersburg, Michigan) was interviewed by Elaine Mallon from the Great Lakes Echo on November 11, 2022, along with research collaborator Dan Zielinski of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission. Scott and Dan discussed the use of a novel type of fish lift called an Archimedes’ screw as part of a broader project to identify, sort, and pass beneficial fish species over migratory barriers while blocking invasive species, such as sea lamprey. An article, “Ancient invention may safely move fish across barriers while blocking invaders, study finds,” was published online on November 23, 2022, in the Great Lakes Echo, and was subsequently covered by the Spartan News Room and City Pulse
