Meet our New Staff at the New England WSC - March 2024
Join us in welcoming our recently hired staff at the New England Water Science Center.
Nathan Roy, Hydrologic Technician, Massachusetts Office
Nathan Roy grew up in western Massachusetts before attending the University of New England where he received a Bachelor of Science in aquaculture and aquarium science. During this time, Nathan worked in the university’s clownfish laboratory and participated in salmon restoration efforts for the Saco River in Maine. He also had the opportunity to work in the aquarium field in Boston, which helped him gain a better understanding of water quality and its value to the environment. After graduating in 2023, Nathan worked in the wastewater field in Lowell. He enjoys playing sports, nature, and traveling.
Sam Roy, Supervisory Physical Scientist, Maine Office
Sam was born and raised in central Maine. After working briefly for a mining company in Montana, he returned to the Northeast to earn his Ph.D. in Earth and climate sciences at the University of Maine. Sam has been fortunate enough to pursue his passions in applied science, modeling, geostatistics, and mentorship during his time as a research professor at University of Maine and as a senior planner with the Maine Emergency Management Agency. He is very excited to join the New England Water Science Center and contribute science-based information to the public. In his spare time, Sam is an ever-aspiring canoeist, hiker, painter, gardener, and collector of pretty rocks.
Jacob (Jake) Wixted, Hydrologic Technician, Connecticut Office
Jake was born and raised in New Fairfield, Connecticut. He served on submarines for the U.S. Navy from 2013 to 2019, stationed in Washington State. Jake received his Bachelor of Science in mathematics with a physics minor from the University of Arizona in 2023. He is excited to learn and eager to contribute to the mission of the New England Water Science Center. In his spare time, Jake enjoys backpacking, gardening, and watching hockey.
