Nutrient Removal During ASR Storage Phase by Suspended & Biofilm Bacterial Communities in the Floridan Aquifer
Research Microbiologist John Lisle gave a presentation titled “Nutrient Removal During ASR Storage Phase by Suspended & Biofilm Bacterial Communities in the Floridan Aquifer” at the American Water Works Association/Florida Section Summer Seminar Series on June 20, 2019.
Aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) is a technology currently being considered for assisting in maintaining surface water flow through the Everglades as part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). Dr. Lisle presented research showing that native microbial communities remove nitrogen, phosphorus and carbon during the storage phase, thereby reducing the nutrient concentrations in the recovered water that is pumped back into Lake Okeechobee.
