The Iowa Geological Survey inventoried and photographed its entire collection of core samples (~12,000 boxes) for availability in IGS's GeoCore Web application and the National Digital Catalog. Researchers are now able to preview core, identify intervals of interest for further study, use images in presentations and publications, analyze images of similar stratigraphic units, and more. The following presentation and guidance describe photography specifications and workflows implemented by the Iowa Geological Survey.
