TNMCorps FAQ: Two separate entities in the same building

QUESTION: I found a building that houses two separate entities. Do I add a point for each one?

ANSWER: You should add a point for each unique function of the building only if the separate functions also operate as separate entities.  For example, if a fire station also has EMS (Emergency Medical Services) capabilities you would not add separate points for the fire station and EMS; however, if the EMS entity operates independent of the fire company you would add two separate points on the building.  In other words, there should only be one point per entity, even if that entity offers multiple services.

One way to tell if they are two separate entities or the same entity is to examine how their website is organized. Two separate entities often have two separate websites while a combined entity will share one website. Logos on emergency vehicles along with how the entities are described on the local government’s website are additional ways to decipher whether the entities operate as two separate entities or as one.

The same concept applies to fire stations and police departments housed in the same building; add one point for each department as long as they operate independent of each other. It’s also common to find city halls in the same building as police and/or fire stations.
