Chesapeake Bay Tidal Shoreline, Chesapeake Bay Program Phase 7 Model

September 20, 2024

This polygon dataset represents the tidal water shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. It is based primarily on shoreline data with horizontal positional accuracy of +/- 2meters provided by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) Center for Coastal Resources Management (CCRM), with minor modifications in seven locations. In six instances, the modifications were made using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) zero-foot sea level rise dataset, which represent mean higher high tide. In one instance, a modification was made using the Chesapeake Bay Program Modified Watershed Boundary layer. These modifications were as follows: - Added the Delaware portion of the tidal Nanticoke River from the NOAA dataset. - Added a braided channel in the Anacostia River in Washington, DC at Kingman Island from the NOAA dataset. - Widened the Anacostia River in Washington, DC at the Washington Navy Yard to match the NOAA dataset. - Shortened the Rappahannock River to match the NOAA dataset. - Shortened the York River to match the NOAA dataset. - Shortened the Pamunkey River to match the NOAA dataset. - The mouth of the Chesapeake Bay was modified to match the Chesapeake Bay Program Modified Watershed Boundary layer.
