STEP-UP: Secondary Transition to Employment Program – USGS Partnership
Across the nation, USGS collaborates with school districts and other educational institutions that have work transition programs for students (mostly ages 18–22) with cognitive and other disabilities. It’s known as STEP-UP (Secondary Transition to Employment Program - USGS Partnership).

STEM Educational Partnerships with Minority Serving Institutions
The USGS is interested in forming partnerships with minority serving institutions to provide opportunities for students through lecture series and internships. The programs began in the late 1980s with a partnership with the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez. Learn more below.

College Partnerships in Neurodiversity
The USGS College Partnerships in Neurodiversity supports student internships at USGS centers that are close to partner colleges. Paid internships for students offer professional development in sciences and workplace experience to help neurodiverse students transition into the workforce.

Cooperative Summer Fellowship Programs
USGS has been hosting summer interns for decades. We now partner with three different organizations to bring skilled, nominated interns to the Cooperative Summer Fellowship Program: the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT), the Ecological Society of America (ESA), and the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI).
