Hello and welcome to CoreFacts, where we're always short on time and big on science. I'm Steve Sobieszczyk. Today's question is about bats.

I have bats in my attic, what should I do?

Bats are among the world's least appreciated and most endangered animals. We suggest that you visit the Bat Conservation International's website, which is linked in our show notes. The Bat Conservation website has a great deal of information on bats, including a link that provides information on how to find a reputable bat removal service -- one that does not harm the bats.

If you are looking for more general information about bats, please check out the USGS Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center as linked in our show notes. In addition, there is a link in our show notes to a delightful educational site, "Echo the Bat," that NASA has put together. So remember, be nice and don't let those little guys drive you batty.

And now you know. Join us every weekday for a new CoreFact. If you have a question you think we should answer on the air, email it to us at corefacts@usgs.gov or leave us a voicemail at 703-648-5600; long distance fees do apply.

The USGS CoreFacts is a product of the U.S. Geological Survey, Department of the Interior.
