Detailed Description

Lava welling from crest of newly forming Rainbow shield, on southwest flank of PKK shield, with Pu`u `O`o in background. This activity is related to today's DID event, when magma entered Pu`u `O`o's shallow reservoir, overpressurized it (causing the inflation), and broke out of the PKK lava tube. 1711.
