Amy Gartman (left) and Jim Hein examine a rock at Almaden Quicksilver County Park, the site of the New Almaden quicksilver mine, which operated from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s. The mine supplied mercury for processing gold ore during the California Gold Rush.
