Drill Rig Q4000
Detailed Description
In April and May of 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy the U.S. Geological Survey collaborated with an industry consortium to conduct the first ever drilling project with the expressed goal to collect geologic data on gas-hydrate-bearing sand reservoirs in the Gulf of Mexico. Their findings suggest that the U.S. Gulf of Mexico does indeed contain thick and concentrated gas-hydrate-bearing reservoir rocks which have the potential to produce gas using current technology.
