Inspecting Nets for Juvenile Fish Samples

January 2024 (approx.)

Detailed Description

Photo (left to right): USGS scientists Georgia Martin and Collin Smith check nets for juvenile fish samples at Glen Canyon Dam, Arizona. They are pictured evaluating the study location, retrieving nets and checking for juvenile fish samples to determine the proper net mesh size for the study. The 2024 tailrace sampling pilot study was conducted to assess gear and deployment methods, aimed at capturing fish as close as possible to the turbine outlets to limit the risk of ensnaring resident fish below the dam. This photograph won the Photo Contest for the Summer 2024 issue of the Something Fishy Newsletter.
