Earthquake maps of Mauna Loa. Circles are earthquake epicenters; the size of the circles increases with magnitude. Green circles are earthquakes with depths less than 5 km (3 mi). Red circles are earthquakes with depths between 5 and 13 km (3-8 mi). Other colors are earthquakes with depths greater than 13 km (8 km). Left: Earthquake locations from January 1, 1980, to March 25, 1984. Right: Earthquake locations from January 1, 2011, to July 12, 2014. Black arrows are the locations of earthquake swarms that have been recorded in the past 13 months.
