Photo of tsunami damage in the La Punta District of Peru, following a deadly tsunami that hit the southern coast on June 23, 2001. The tsunami was triggered by a massive earthquake of moment magnitude 8.4, the largest earthquake recorded worldwide in 35 years (as of 2001).
