Preparing samples onboard R/V Pelican

After taking the pH of each sample, the tops were taped shut to prevent them from leaking while being shipped to the lab for further analysis. Once in the lab, the samples will be mechanically split into aliquots for different types of analyses. They will measure the flux of different bulk sedimentary components (e.g., organic carbon, opal, inorganic carbon), foraminifera, and characterize the microbial community using DNA.
