Detailed Description
A helicopter outfitted for an airborne geophysical survey. The boom extending from the front of the helicopter is called a stinger. The bulb at the end of the stinger houses a magnetometer, the instrument used to measure the Earth's magnetic field. This configuration minimizes interference from the magnetic field of the helicopter. Image courtesy of New Sense Geophysics Ltd.
