Sphecodes coronus, F, Side, NY, GLSA Small Bog Inlet Fen

Detailed Description

More Sphecodes from the Adirondack Mountains of New York. There are many species of Sphecodes. They look remarkably the same. Females, like this one, inevitably have red butts and the rest about small sculptural differences. I have a very hard time differentiating them and will be traveling to the American Museum in New York to look at the wonderful collection of Sphecodes that John Ascher recently curated. Can a boy have more fun than that?Photo by Brooke Alexander. Photography Information: Canon Mark II 5D, Zerene Stacker, Stackshot Sled, 65mm Canon MP-E 1-5X macro lens, Twin Macro Flash in Styrofoam Cooler, F5.0, ISO 100, Shutter Speed 200. USGSBIML Photoshopping Technique: Note that we now have added using the burn tool at 50% opacity set to shadows to clean up the halos that bleed into the black background from "hot" color sections of the picture.
