Detailed Description
Lava fragments explode onto the sides of a littoral cone on the south coast of Kīlauea Volcano as lava pours into the sea from a lava tube. Littoral cones rarely reached heights of more than 2 to 4 m (6 to 13 ft) between 1986 and 1997 because the cones frequently collapsed into the sea and the location of entry points often did not stay at a single location for more than several days to a few weeks.
