Third pond of water now visible in Halema‘uma‘u

Clear weather allowed HVO scientists to make additional observations of the water at the bottom of Halema‘uma‘u today, including laser range finder measurements (shown here), thermal images, and telephoto photographs. While doing their work, they heard and saw multiple rockfalls from the crater rim, a reminder of the ongoing hazards in this area and why it is closed to the public. USGS photo by J. Babb, 08/04/2019.
