GP1 East Transect – 2015

Permanent Control Site: GP1 East Transect; Depth: 7.3 Meters (24 Feet); Distance from river mouth: 19.0 Kilometers (11.8 Miles) east; Pre/Post Dam Removal: 4 years post-dam removal; Lat/Long: 48.11852521,-123.31538047; Site Description: This site was established as the eastern control. Depth is medium-shallow. Substrate is mainly a gravel/sand/cobble mixture surrounding numerous large boulders. Red (0:10, 0:27 seconds) and brown seaweed was abundant. Six species of browns were recorded and mainly consisted of the perennial seaweed Pterygophora californica (0:47 seconds), Saccharina spp. (0:23 seconds) and Pleurophycus gardneri (1:37, 1:54 seconds). The pink growth on boulders is crustose coralline algae (1:16, 1:47 seconds). Green sea urchins (Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis) were still very abundant (1:18, 1:33 seconds) and were scattered along entire transect. Other invertebrates seen on video: staghorn bryozoan Heteropora pacifica (yellow clump at 1:24 seconds), blood sea star Henricia leviuscula leviuscula (2:22 seconds).
