H1 East Transect – 2012

Permanent Site: H1 East Transect; Depth: 5.6 Meters (Feet 18.4); Distance from river mouth: 2.4 Kilometers (1.5 Miles) east; Pre/Post Dam Removal: 10 months post-dam removal; Lat/Long: 48.1479177,-123.53472865; Site Description: This is a shallow site and one of the farthest removed from the effects of the sediment plume outside of the control sites. Substrate is still mainly gravel with some sand and cobble. Density of seaweed has greatly decreased. Alaria marginata (0:40, 0:53 seconds), bull kelp Nereocystis luetkeana (1:41 seconds) and the perennial seaweed Pterygophora californica (0:34 seconds) are still present but the three-ribbed kelp Cymathere triplicata was almost all gone. Invertebrates were scarce except for the horse clam Tresus capax (siphon is small oval shape with two dots at 0:12 seconds). Other invertebrates seen on video: sunflower sea star Pycnopodia helianthoides (0:10, 1:14 seconds).
