ShakeMovie of 2019 M6.4 Ridgecrest Sequence Earthquake

This ShakeMovie depicts a computer-generated simulation of the July 4, 2019 M6.4 Ridgecrest, CA earthquake, and is based on a mathematical model of the earthquake faulting process and 3D wave propagation. To initiate the simulation, a detailed representation of the earthquake rupture is inserted into the mathematical model, and then as the fault ruptures, seismic waves are radiated into the surrounding geologic media. This earthquake ruptured east-to-west along the fault focusing seismic waves into the community of Ridgecrest, which which resulted in moderate levels of damage.
