Vents continue erupting at Kīlauea summit - September 12, 2023
Detailed Description
During an HVO eruption monitoring overflight on September 12, 2023, HVO geologists landed on the downdropped block within Kīlauea's summit caldera and searched for a safe place to collect a lava sample. Multiple eruptive vents continue to erupt lava and the area north of the eruptive vents has become perched about 3 meters (15 feet) higher than the surrounding ground surface. This perching is visible in the foreground of the video, with a geologist visible on the left for scale.
