A helicopter overflight on June 8, 2021, at approximately 11:45 a.m. HST allowed for aerial visual and thermal imagery to be collected of Halema‘uma‘u crater at the summit of Kīlauea. The eruption is no longer active, and the lava lake remains solidified on its surface. Small hotspots are present in scattered areas on the lake surface due to residual heat in the lake. The scale of the thermal map ranges from blue to red, with blue colors indicative of cooler temperatures and red colors indicative of warmer temperatures. USGS map by M. Patrick.
