Climate Adaptation Deep Dives

Climate change is complicated. There is often a lot of nuance how shifting conditions impact different places, ecosystems, and people. In this series, we dive into complex climate topics, seeking to help the public understand their relevance to on-the-ground climate adaptation efforts and to showcase the connections between broad CASC projects.

Deep Dive: Environmental and Climate Justice

Environmental and climate justice principles envision a world in which everyone has equal access to healthy, clean environments and is able to participate in the environmental and climate decisions that impact them. These principles are foundational to the CASC network’s mission, and are central to our partnership-driven, actionable science model.

Deep Dive: Climate Adaptation in Urban Ecosystems

Urban and suburban ecosystems are home to 80% of the US population and provide habitat for a wide variety of plants, animals, and other natural and cultural resources. The USGS studies how human-dominated ecosystems can protect communities from climate change impacts, as well as how they contribute to the overall health and wellbeing of residents, including underserved communities.

Deep Dive: Climate Change Scenario Planning

Scenario planning is a powerful tool to help decision makers plan for an uncertain future. Through this process, people consider different ways the climate could change and explore how these changes would affect resources important to them. USGS scientists work with natural and cultural resource managers to use climate change scenario planning to prepare for a wide range of possible futures.
