Grfin Tools—Software Package and Runtime Documentation for Users
February 25, 2025
Grfin Tools (an acronym of Growth + flow + inundation) is a set of software tools for portraying areas potentially impacted by runout from landslides or inundation from geophysical mass-flows (such as debris flows) with or without growth as they travel. Grfin Tools allows users to assess the effects of a wide range of factors that can influence mobility. The software also enables runout assessment over large areas without the substantial computational requirements of physics-based models. Because of its ability to model regional-scale integrated effects of debris-flow growth, Grfin Tools can portray flow inundation without the need to identify precise locations and volumes of landslide sources or other sources of growth, such as channel bed entrainment.
This package contains the software as well as user installation and runtime documentation. An accompanying user guide describes the methods underlying the tools and models, detailed descriptions of software input and output files, and multiple detailed examples. This accompanying document, "Grfin Tools—User guide and methods for modeling landslide runout and debris-flow growth and inundation" can be found at https://doi.org/10.3133/tm14A3.

Grfin Tools—User guide and methods for modeling landslide runout and debris-flow growth and inundation
The software package, Grfin Tools, can estimate potential runout from landslides or inundation from geophysical mass flows such as debris flows, lahars from volcanoes, and rock avalanches within a digital elevation model (DEM). Grfin is an acronym of growth + flow + inundation. The tools within this package apply simple, well-tested, empirical models of runout that are computationally...
