This tutorial will demonstrate how to apply scale factors to Landsat Level-2 Surface Reflectance and Temperature datasets for Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix is known for being one of the hottest cities in the United States, with surface temperatures reaching up to 80 degrees Celsius. In this tutorial, we will scale the NIR, RED, and LWIR (temperature band) bands of a single Landsat scene acquired over the Phoenix area, calculate the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and convert the scaled temperature band to Celsius. We then compare the results of the calculated NDVI to the scaled Celsius over the city to examine differences in NDVI and temperature.
