Aimee Devaris
Ms. Aimee Devaris is the Regional Director for the Alaska Region (DOI Region 11) at the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Ms. Devaris provides leadership for the full extent of USGS science capabilities in the Alaska Region, including natural hazards, energy and mineral resources, water resources, geospatial mapping, and ecosystems and landscape science. In this position, she oversees the Alaska Science Center, Volcano Science Center, and multidisciplinary project personnel located within the region. She is responsible for representing the USGS and DOI on the broad array of interagency working groups and committees focused on advancing scientific outcomes in the U.S. Arctic and managing partner and stakeholder relationships in the region.
Prior to joining the USGS in 2011, Ms. Devaris was with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) for more than 21 years. She worked her way up from a meteorology internship in Kodiak, AK, in 1994 to a general weather forecaster and hydrology specialist in Juneau, AK, to progressively responsible local and regional management positions in Anchorage, AK. After spending most of her early career in Alaska, Ms. Devaris took a job at the NWS Headquarters in Silver Spring, MD. She held increasingly influential leadership positions, overseeing the agency’s performance management and customer satisfaction systems, then leading the agency’s budget planning to support the NWS strategic plan and the transition of NOAA research into operations. She returned to Alaska in 2008 and began serving as the NWS Regional Director in 2011.
Ms. Devaris is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she earned her Master of Science in Engineering and Science Management. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from the Texas A&M University.
