Alexander Walker

Alex is a hydrologic technician in the Southwest Montana Field Office.

Starting at a young age, I enjoyed exploring the creek in my backyard in Missouri, collecting fossils and cool rocks I found. At age 10 I got SCUBA certified. My first coral reef I saw was off the coast of Cozumel. Seeing all the fish and coral sparked a passion for marine conservation in me. My love for nature grew as I started taking geoscience classes in high school. I was fascinated by the ways natural systems interact.

I attended the University of Kansas and graduated with my B.S. in Geology. I am fortunate to conduct field studies throughout Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas. One of these field studies, a group of colleagues and I floated the entire 270 miles of the Grand Canyon, exploring how the Grand Canyon formed and the time it took to form. I started a fellowship with the Coral Restoration Foundation working as a SCUBA coral restoration and reef rehabilitation specialist. I work along the entire Florida Keys from Key largo to Key West. I have now found a home with the Wyoming-Montana Water Science District working as a Hydrologic Technician.
